Zach Barr Reviews… Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (Lovers & Madmen)

Figuring out a location to place praise, or blame, in theatrical criticism is more difficult than you might realize. Not because it’s not difficult to find some elements of praise or blame in 95% of productions, but because theatre is so collaborative. When I look at a show with a single fantastic scene that works, I could shape the review to be a commendation of the acting, the directing, the writing, the scenic design, the costuming, the sound design, the lighting design – I’ve seen plenty a work brought down by lighting design. Pinpointing the party responsible is challenging, but praise does have to fall somewhere.
